Frankfort police commissioners review potential new hires

The village of Frankfort Board of Fire and Police Commissioners met Jan. 13 to review potential new hires.

Here are the meeting's minutes, as provided by the board:

"The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners is created by state law. The Mayor appoints the three members, one of which is designated as the chairperson. The Commissioners meet as needed, about 10-12 times per year. The Commissioners have the authority to hire, fire and discipline police officers. "

MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING FRANKFORT BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS

Friday, January 13th, 2017

CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL

The regular meeting of the Frankfort Police Commission was called to order at 8:04 A.M. on Friday, January 13th, 2017 at the Frankfort Village Hall, 432 W. Nebraska St. Frankfort, IL. 60423.

Roll Call was taken by Chairman Kelley; Commissioner Martello, Commissioner Sunderland and Chief Burica were in attendance. Detective Kevin Johnson of the Frankfort Police was also in attendance.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

The minutes of the regular meeting of Wednesday, January 11th, 2017 were presented to the Board for review, action and approval. Motion to accept was placed by Chairman Kelley, second by Commissioner Martello and passed by unanimous consent.

CORRESPONDENCE

Recent statements relating to advertising cost pertaining to New Patrol Testing were presented to the board and by unanimous consent approved to be paid.

Promotion Testing: No update was given

New patrol testing: The board was presented with a request of an applicant who has requested accommodation since the scheduled testing date is in conflict with his Army National Guard Drill Duties. Motion was passed by unanimous consent to allow testing of the applicant by I/O Solutions testing service. In accordance with the rules and regulations of the Frankfort Police Board, a mandatory orientation will be afforded the applicant. Further discussion took place on future revision of the rules which may definitively outline those instances when testing may be done outside the formal published date.

Potential Hiring off of the current Patrol List: The Frankfort Police Department and Police Board faced with extraordinary exigency of insufficient patrol staffing by recent loss of patrol officers to lateral moves, combined with the exhaustion of certified officer candidates on the current Final Eligibility Register have taken steps to address this situation. Significant discussion took place on the best way to remedy the situation. After thorough discussion between members, a motion was set forth from Chairman Kelley seconded by Commissioner Martello and passed unanimously that in accordance with Frankfort Police Board Rules and Regulations that an Additional Final Eligibility Register would be compiled from remaining candidates.

As with any hiring list, potential applicants will be interviewed by the board. In the case of a single applicant who was not present for his initial oral interview, a signed affidavit will be requested to document his excuse from the initial oral interview. Oral interviews for the Additional Final Eligibility Register were tentatively scheduled for February 9th, 2017@ 6pm.
