The Village of Park Forest is planning to enhance the visibility of its DownTown area by installing a new LED sign on village-owned land near CVS Pharmacy, at the intersection of Western Avenue and Main Street. The plan was presented by village officials during their board meeting on June 9.

The proposed LED sign will be similar in design and function to an existing one located at Lincoln Highway and Orchard Drive. It will measure 50.2” x 113”, with a logo area of 45” x 113”. The sign aims to display messages promoting events, business promotions, and public service announcements to approximately 15,000 vehicles passing by daily.

According to the Village’s Five-Year Capital Plan, the installation is slated for fiscal year 2025–26, including landscaping and site preparation. The electrical connections for the sign will be coordinated with ComEd.

This initiative follows a community survey indicating strong support for increased visibility in the downtown area. “Results from the survey indicated that a sign on Western and Main would benefit the DownTown businesses and Village events,” stated the Signage Plan.

Park Forest previously installed an LED sign at Orchard–Route 30 over ten years ago, costing about $100,000. Although it has undergone software upgrades and hardware replacements in FY 2020–21, it remains functional. This previous installation served as a test case for digital advertising and community updates.

The new LED sign project is fully funded through grants with an estimated cost of $124,950. Village officials have promised to update the public once work begins on the project.
