The City of Joliet Public Utilities Department will commence construction on the Varnado Park Water Main project starting Monday, August 5, 2024. The designated construction area includes several streets: Water St and S DesPlaines St (from McDonough St to Lucas St); S Joliet St (from McDonough St to the dead end); S Ottawa St (from McDonough St to Shelby St); Munroe St (from the dead end to S Ottawa St); W Jasper St (from Water St to S Joliet St); Shelby St (from the dead end to Water St and from S DesPlaines St to S Joliet St); and Sheridan St (from the dead end to Water St).

Bridge Street/Jackson Street Bridge traffic modification scheduled for August 1, 2024
As part of the City’s Bluff Street Sanitary Interceptor Rehabilitation Project, the Bridge Street / Jackson Street Bridge will be reduced to one lane with two-way traffic maintained using flagging operations on Thursday, August 1, 2024. Significant delays are expected due to flagging operations. The work will begin at 9:00 am and is expected to be completed and back to normal traffic operations by 2:30 pm. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternative routes for the duration of the work.

Ruby Street bridge in Joliet to close for upgrades starting July 30
The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced a full closure of Ruby Street (Illinois 53) over the Des Plaines River in Joliet, effective from Tuesday, July 30 to Friday, August 2. This measure is part of ongoing efforts to upgrade the movable bridges in downtown Joliet and is contingent on weather conditions. The City of Joliet has announced that construction activity will commence the week of July 22, 2024.
