McDonough Street in Joliet will be closed to all traffic starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, according to an announcement from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). The closure is necessary for CSX Railroad to carry out repairs on a rail crossing located west of U.S. 6.

A detour will be set up to guide drivers along U.S. 6, Larkin Avenue (Illinois 7), and Jefferson Street (U.S. 52). The repair work is being managed by the railroad and is expected to finish by 7 a.m. on Sunday, October 19.

"The public should expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to detour signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment," IDOT stated.

Residents seeking more information about ongoing IDOT projects can visit their official website or check traffic conditions at www.gettingaroundillinois.com. Updates are also available through IDOT’s social media channels on Facebook and X.

For further details, Maria Castaneda and Guy Tridgell from IDOT can be contacted at maria.c.castaneda@illinois.gov or guy.tridgell@illinois.gov respectively.
