Beginning Monday, October 13, 2025, road closures will change as part of the ongoing Chicago Street Streetscape construction project in downtown Joliet. The new phase involves installing brick pavers on Chicago Street between Van Buren Street and Clinton Street. This section of the street will be closed to vehicle traffic for about three weeks.

Pedestrian access to all businesses in the affected area will remain open throughout the construction period. Safety fencing and construction barrels have been set up to guide pedestrians safely through the zone. The City has stated that all businesses are open during this time.

The City of Joliet announced that further updates on construction phases will be provided as work progresses. Residents and business owners can find more information about the project at www.joliet.gov/construction-zone or by contacting the Department of Public Works at 815-724-4200.

"The City of Joliet appreciates your patience and cooperation during this improvement project," according to a statement from city officials.

Joliet is located in Will and Kendall counties, approximately 30 miles southwest of Chicago, and serves as the county seat of Will County. As reported by the 2020 census, it is Illinois' third largest city with a population of over 150,000 residents. More details about Joliet can be found at https://www.joliet.gov.
