New Lenox FPD responds to 116 fires in 2016

New Lenox Fire Protection District responded to 609 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the Will County Gazette.

The calls in New Lenox included 116 fires - 54 structure fires, 22 vehicle fires and 39 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $839,950 in fire loss - or about $7,241 per fire.

The department also received 493 false calls, including 11 malicious calls and 482 other false calls.

The New Lenox FPD Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 11 active employees and five retired or inactive employees, was $73,538 in debt as of December 2015, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $634 for every fire in 2016.
