State Senator John Curran is organizing a community recycling event in Naperville on Saturday, July 26, 2025. The event will take place at The Compass Church – Naperville Campus located at 1551 Hobson Rd., from 9 am to noon. Residents are encouraged to bring items that are more difficult to recycle, such as old copiers, DVD players, bikes, and documents.
“Summer is a great time to clear out what isn’t serving you and declutter in a sustainable way,” said Sen. Curran. “From document shredding to clothing donation, to good, old-fashioned recycling, this free community event offers multiple ways to come together and make a difference.”
Attendees are advised to remain in their vehicles upon arrival until assisted by an event team member. Participants include Beaver Shredding, DuPage County Sheriff’s Office, E-Tech Trading, Goodwill Industries, Naperville Noon Lions Club and Working Bikes. Legislative brochures on various topics will also be available.
A paper shredding truck will be available for disposing of residential documents with a limit of two grocery bags per car until the shredder is full. Non-liquid prescription drugs can also be disposed of during the event.
Items accepted for recycling include residential documents; gently used clothing and household items; some electronics; bicycles; bicycle parts and accessories; hearing aids; glasses; sunglasses; brass; sneakers; pop tops; wire; keys and key fobs; cell phones and smartphones; desktop printer cartridges; and prescription drugs (excluding liquids or epi pens).
Items not accepted include furniture like chairs or couches, mattresses, desks or other office furniture, large exercise equipment, CRT TVs or computer monitors, household chemical products like pesticides or paint thinners, automotive hazardous waste such as tires or lead-acid batteries, large appliances including refrigerators or stoves/ovens among others.
