Newly installed GOP Assistant Minority Leader Jackie Haas has been appointed to serve on five House committees, including as spokeswoman for the House Health Care Availability & Access and the Mental Health & Addiction committees on Feb. 9.
Haas was first elected to the House in 2020, and after being re-elected in November, is now serving in her second term in the 79th House District, which includes portions of Kankakee, Will, Grundy and Cook counties.
Haas highly anticipates her new role serving the state of Illinois, according to a Daily Journal news release.
“I am looking forward to getting to work in Springfield this session on Joint Committee on Administrative Rules [JCAR], which takes an essential role in the way our government works and serves people throughout our state,” Haas said.
In addition to being an assistant minority leader, Haas serves in several roles. She also aids the General Assembly in the rules of passed laws.
Along with being named to the bicameral legislative oversight JCAR, Haas is also set to serve on the House Appropriations — Health & Human Services, Prescription Drug Affordability and Human Services committees.
In her role on JCAR, Haas will join 11 other legislators to help oversee the rule-making process by state agencies. In this process, JCAR works to make sure the rules abide by the original intent of legislators when laws are passed, adequately inform the General Assembly of how laws are implemented through agency rule-making and help facilitate a public understanding of rules and regulations.
