The Romeoville Village Board of Trustees recognized a group of young flag football players who achieved victory in the Flag Football League and also celebrated the Hampton Park Social Athletic Club’s 60th anniversary during a recent meeting.
During the meeting, which was streamed on YouTube, trustees celebrated the champions from the league’s three divisions, for ages 5-7, ages 8-10 and ages11-14. The league, which completed its 16th season, included 24 teams across the age groups and 154 games were played, with the Thunder, Patriots and Cowboys winning their division championship.
“Thank you to all of the volunteers and coaches that are involved with the league for their continued commitment to our youth,” Mayor John Noak said. “It has really been nice to have this tradition of bringing the Superbowl champions out.”
Athletic Director Rob Gura thanked trustees and families for their support over the years and noted that many of the officials and coaches are former players. It also was noted during the session that the players learn valuable life lessons, including how to face adversity and stress.
Noak and the board also honored the Hampton Park Social Athletic Club, which is marking 60 years of operation in Romeoville. It was noted during the session that several board members are affiliated with the club, which supports and assists with events and fundraisers in the village. Noak also noted that the club also supports local businesses and organizations.
“And we want to send our gratitude to them as well and people who have been members over that 60 years,” Noak said during the session.
Noak also noted that the group has seen many members through its ranks over 60 years, all of whom have contributed to the community’s efforts through the decades.
“So let's definitely send our gratitude out to all those people that done so much over the years,” he concluded during the session.
