Tom McCullagh thinks the Parents for Choice slate is just what Plainfield School District 202 needs.

“They’re doing a great job and want to get students back to school," McCullagh told the Will County Gazette. “They’re focusing on reducing tax burdens, holding unions and union members more accountable and trying to get better curriculums.”

Board candidate Raj Pillai is on record in asserting that he believes the number one job of the board is to fulfill the will of parents and students.

Pillai, who is joined on the Parents for Choice slate by Richard Todd, Annie Klupshas and Nick Giannasi, added during a recent radio appearance, “We're all under a common cause to reopen schools five days a week. Right now, I think the districts generally are going into five days, but they're only doing half days."

McCullagh — who bagged 44% of the vote in his 49th state Senate District run against Meg Loughran Cappel last November vowing  fiscal responsibility and no more tax hikes —said that while he thinks the Plainfield school board is probably one of the most active there is in the area, he’s also keeping an eye on others.

"You got the Joliet Junior College race,” he said. “I think Tia Holcombe is probably the best candidate on there. And for Joliet Township supervisor, Diane Harris is a true moderate and very capable.”

Will County Board member Steve Balich is running for Homer Township supervisor with McCullagh’s complete support.

“Steve Balich is the most outspoken conservative in Will County period,” he said. “He’s definitely a taxpayer watchdog and he doesn’t mess around or mince words. He’s definitely up to task and after 20 years there needs to be some change in that township.”
