Republican state House candidate Mike Fricilone is warning voters about what a vote for his 3rd District opponent Marie Newman could mean.

“My opponent is a socialist who wants to tell everyone she will give them everything for free and that she will defund the police,” Fricilone told the Will County Gazette. “We certainly need police to protect our families and communities and any talk of defunding them is ridiculous.”

With the economy being as fragile as it is while the impact of COVID-19 continues to be felt, Fricilone fears what Newman and the policies she stands for would mean for Illinois residents and their children.

“I’m genuinely scared for our future,” he said. “Newman’s extreme socialist agenda would cripple our economy, shutter family businesses already struggling to keep their doors open, and put thousands more residents on unemployment. With our economy already in shambles, now is the absolute worst time to pursue an agenda that economists agree would make things exponentially worse.”

Fricilone said he’s already publicly called on Newman to take back her support for the defund the police movement as being in the best interest of the people of the district.

“Everyone I talk to still wants them to make sure their homes and families are protected,” he said. “They don’t won’t riots or looting, and this defund talk is already having an impact. Officers feel maligned and are retiring and if we stay on this path it’s going to be harder to recruit new officers. I’ve called on her to disavow what’s happening, but she’s had nothing to say.”

Since launching his campaign, Fricilone hasn’t been shy about speaking out on the state’s most critical issues. He recently took Gov. J.B. Pritzker to task over his talk of imposing another shutdown.

He’s got this idea of how he wants to do things and nothing else seems to matter,” he said. “The courts have already said he doesn’t have the power to continue to do all these things. Besides that, if there are no jobs left for people what good can any of it do?”
