New Lenox - Richard Schmitz Sr., 82, an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, passed away. He was the loving husband of Martha, nee Vargas, and the devoted father of Deborah (Randy) Alvarado, Richard Schmitz Jr., Michael (Jessica Kielma), Paul (Vera) Schmitz, and Scott Schmitz. Richard was the cherished grandpa of Madelyn, Christopher, and Samuel Alvarado. He was the dear brother of Mary C. Schmitz, Diane (Pat) Rusniak, Karen Batchelor, and Paula (Frank) Waliczek. Richard is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 21, starting at 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 15050 Wolf Rd, Orland Park, IL 60467. Interment will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
