Beecher Community Unit School District 200U Board of Education Facilities Committee met Aug. 26.

The meeting was called to order at 5:33 pm with all committee members (Mazurek, Hernandez, and Goldrick) present.

Others in attendance: Brad Cox, Marla Heldt, Karla Wcisel, Julie Papas, Kacy Malecha, Crystal Johnson, Julie Cleary, and Cortney Buzelli

Public comment included concerns with air quality and classroom temperatures in the school buildings and the effects that these conditions have on students. A concern for wheelchair accessibility at the elementary was also mentioned. Concerns regarding future growth was mentioned as well.

Summer 2020 projects were discussed. Mr. Cox provided a 3-year Facilities Strategic Plan for the district. Mark Ritz of BLDD Architects, was introduced and provided background information of the company. BLDD Architects will be conducting the 10- Year Life Safety Audit for the district within the next several weeks.

Further discussion regarding the 3-Year Facility Plan included asbestos abatement, structural issues, high school driveway replacement, track/soccer field at the junior high, functionality issues at the elementary and high school buildings, drop off/pick up at the elementary, high school gym bleachers, air conditioning, district storage, and parking at both the elementary and high schools. The committee is recommending to prioritize the list of projects according to needs of the district and obtaining true costs rather than estimations. The 10-Year Life Safety will provide additional information and help in prioritizing the Summer 2020 projects. It was suggested that bids be obtained for the high school driveway project soon to lock in a cost.

Public comment included focusing on matching funds from the state but Mr. Cox indicated that information has not been received as yet. He will continue to keep the Board informed and monitor the financial status of the district.
