Manhattan FPD responds to 23 fires in 2017

Manhattan Fire Protection District responded to 90 calls in 2017 - 24.4 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Manhattan included 23 fires - seven structure fires, three vehicle fires and 13 other fires.

In all, the department saw $185,540 in fire loss - or about $8,067 per fire.

The department also received 67 false calls, including one malicious call and 66 other false calls.

The Manhattan Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $3,124,189 in 2017.

The Manhattan FPD Firefighter's Pension Fund, which has 13 active employees and one retired or inactive employee, was $30,123 positive as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $1,076 for every fire in 2016.
