The Village of Park Forest is organizing its annual RecycleFest on Saturday, July 26, from 8 a.m. to noon. The event will be held in the parking lot across from the Park Forest Police Department at 200 Lakewood Boulevard.

RecycleFest focuses on providing a second life to unwanted household goods with an emphasis on reuse before recycling. Various community partners will be present to accept items such as electronics, toys, and textiles for responsible reuse or recycling.

Participants are encouraged to sort and label their items by category and place them in the trunk or back seat of their vehicles. Volunteers will assist in unloading the items for a quick and easy process.

Entry to the event is through Forest Boulevard into the Liberty Drive parking lot, with signage directing vehicles through the area.

Items that can be recycled include electronics like TVs, computer monitors, printers, and microwaves for a small cash fee. Other recyclable items include bikes and accessories, eyeglasses, housewares, clothing and shoes (gently used only), trophies, toys and stuffed animals, Styrofoam, American flags, prescription drugs, oral care products like empty toothpaste tubes and floss containers, latex paint for varying fees depending on quantity, aerosol products ($1), car seats & strollers ($10), and smoke & CO2 detectors ($1).

All items should be clean and sorted before arrival. Gently used clothing and shoes are accepted while nonwearable textiles are not accepted this year.

Working Bikes will accept bike parts and accessories along with bikes in any condition. More information can be found at workingbikes.org.

RecycleFest offers residents an eco-friendly way to clear out clutter or give unused items a better future as part of Park Forest's sustainability efforts.
