ComEd has announced a collaboration with Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago (NHS) and the Salvation Army to launch the ComEd Customer Relief Fund. This initiative is designed to support eligible customers facing higher energy costs during peak summer months. The fund, valued at $10 million, is made possible through charitable contributions from Exelon, ComEd's parent company.

Starting July 7, eligible residential customers with past-due balances and incomes at or below 300 percent of the Federal Poverty Level can apply for grants up to $500. Additionally, qualified nonprofit organizations may receive grants up to $1,000. Applications can be submitted through NHS and the Salvation Army.

"Beginning July 7, eligible ComEd customers will be able to apply for relief through NHS and the Salvation Army," stated a spokesperson from ComEd.

ComEd acknowledges that its customers are affected by rising energy supply costs due to increased demand. Although ComEd does not control these costs, it remains committed to advocating for its customers and seeking solutions. "We recognize that any increase in household expenses can be difficult," a company representative noted.

Beyond the relief fund, ComEd provides various programs aimed at assisting customers in managing their energy usage and reducing monthly bills. These include budget billing, flexible payment plans, home energy audits, high-usage alerts among others accessible via their online portal.

"In 2024, ComEd connected approximately 229,000 customers to energy assistance programs," reported the company while highlighting its ongoing commitment to delivering reliable service and meaningful relief.
