City of Lockport issued the following announcement on June 22.
The City of Lockport’s Summer Art Series Committee is excited to announce the start of the Local Artist Choice Awards for artists 18 years and older. The committee has selected seventeen pieces of art to display at host businesses throughout downtown Lockport.
Beginning Monday, June 25 through Monday, July 23, the community can tour the artwork downtown with family and friends and vote on their favorite artwork. Each host business will have a poster in their window indicating that they are a host business showing a picture of the artwork displayed in their store. A list of participating businesses, artists, and artwork titles/description is available on page two.
Each person can vote once per day. Ballots will be available upon request and ballot boxes will be visibly displayed. The public is advised to go to the businesses’ websites to confirm the hours of operation before visiting.
Artwork location maps are available at each participating business, as well as at the City’s Water Department, 222 E. 9th Street, 2nd Floor, and the White Oak Library, 121 E. 8th Street. A digital copy of the map is available on the City’s website.
The winners will be announced at the Roxy Theater on Thursday, July 26, with more details coming soon. The Summer Arts Series Committee is also hosting a contest for artists ages 17 and younger. Details regarding this contest coming soon.
