The Park Forest Veterans Commission will hold its annual Veterans Day ceremony on Saturday, November 8, 2025, starting at noon on the Village Green. If weather conditions require, the event will move indoors to Dining on the Green at 349 Main Street.

The program will begin with a performance by the Bloom High School ROTC led by Lt. Henderson-Shaw. Speakers for the event include Dr. Barbara West, Chair of the Park Forest Veterans Commission, and Mayor Joseph A. Woods.

After the ceremony, veterans and their families as well as community members are invited to attend a catered meal at the Park Forest American Legion Hall on Western Avenue. The cost for this meal is $25 per person. Organizers encourage advance payment through the Recreation, Parks, and Community Health Department by calling 708-748-2005 during business hours.

Park Forest was established in 1946 to provide housing for World War II veterans and their families and is known as one of America's original “G.I. Towns.” Its history remains closely connected to military service and post-war development.

A spokesperson for the Village said that efforts continue to recognize those who have served in the military.

In recent years, Park Forest’s Veterans Day events have included different tributes such as last year’s landing of a Vietnam-era helicopter during the program.
