During a recent board meeting, the Park Forest Board of Trustees honored the graduates of the Civic Leadership Academy Class of 2025 at Village Hall. The program spanned nine months, beginning in September and concluding with the graduation ceremony. It aimed to enhance participants' understanding of local governance and community issues through monthly informational sessions.

The curriculum addressed topics such as environmental challenges, municipal finance, cultural arts programming, recreation services, and operations of police and fire departments. Participants also toured Governors State University and Prairie State College to explore post-secondary education options in their region.

Mayor Joseph A. Woods presented diplomas to each graduate during the ceremony and encouraged them to volunteer for commissions offered by the Village. He shared his own experience as a former participant in the Civic Leadership Academy, which inspired him to pursue public service.

The program was relaunched last year but faced interruptions due to a stay-at-home order issued by Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker for nonessential activities.

Applications for the next cohort are open until August 9 on the Village's website. Accepted individuals will begin their journey in September to continue fostering informed community leaders.
