FOIA Request to City of Crest Hill Regarding Newly Registered Businesses on May 7, 2025.

We, at the Will County Gazette, have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Crest Hill. Our request seeks access to records concerning businesses registered with the city over the past week. Specifically, we are requesting a list that includes the following details for each business: Business Name, Business Number, Business Type, Business Address, Issued Date, Status, and Registered Agent Name.

As a media organization dedicated to delivering comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe that access to public records is vital for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. This includes holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have requested a fee waiver as media professionals.

Additionally, it is important to note that this request is supported by The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy—a non-profit organization committed to assisting news media companies and public advocacy groups in investigating state and federal governmental agencies. Through leveraging Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws, they aim to increase transparency and inform the American electorate.

We look forward to receiving the requested information and will continue our efforts to provide valuable insights into local governmental activities.
