The Village of Park Forest is scheduled to convene for its regular board meeting on Monday, April 21, at the Village Hall. The agenda for the meeting comprises six motions and two resolutions, with varied topics set to be discussed.

One of the motions includes approval of the minutes from March meetings, along with various contracts associated with the Asphalt and Concrete Patching Programs and water treatment chemicals. There is also a motion on approving an engineering agreement aimed at reconstructing Forest and Norwood Boulevards, covering the stretch from Indianwood Boulevard to Westwood Drive. Another motion will focus on renewing a landscape maintenance contract.

The two resolutions planned for the session involve the disposal of personal property owned by the Village and the adoption of fiscal policies for the 2025/2026 budget. Finance Director Mark Pries, in a memo to the Board, stressed that incorporating fiscal policies is a fundamental requirement of the Distinguished Budget Award program, which necessitates budget inclusions of such policies.

Pries noted that these policies are crucial for management during budget preparation. They are formulated based on the previous December's tax levy and its assumptions, as well as economic conditions affecting revenues and expenditures post-adoption of the levy.

Pries outlined several points for the Board's consideration, including a 2 percent increase in departmental expenses, a 3.5 percent salary hike for personnel aligned with union deals, a 5 percent rise in water rates from $20.91 to $21.95 per 1,000 gallons, and a similar 5 percent increase in sewer rates from $3.82 to $4.02 per 1,000 gallons. These rate adjustments are tied to a revised ordinance adopted in December 2021. Moreover, refuse rates will remain steady at $27.65 throughout 2025, incrementally rising to $28.57 as of January 1, 2026.
