Tom Mick Village Manager | Village of Park Forest
The Village of Park Forest is set to conduct its first Rules and Special Regular Meeting of April on Monday at 7 p.m. at Village Hall. Key topics on the agenda include a motion related to developments at the Park Forest Aqua Center, financial considerations for the fiscal year, and several departmental service contracts.
The Park Forest Board of Trustees is anticipated to approve Option #2, which involves a partial renovation of the Park Forest Aqua Center and the addition of a splash pad, with costs not exceeding $3.5 million. The project expenses will follow the Village's purchasing policy for Board approval.
The meeting will also address fiscal policies outlined by Finance Director Mark Pries. Pries suggested the adoption of various financial measures, including a 2% increase in departmental expenditures and a 3.5% salary increase for personnel under union contracts. Water rates are proposed to rise by 5%, from $20.91 to $21.95 per 1,000 gallons, and similarly, sewer rates to increase by 5%, from $3.82 to $4.02 per 1,000 gallons. Refuse rates will remain at $27.65 throughout 2025 with a planned increase to $28.57 on January 1, 2026. These changes align with a contract set to last until the end of 2033.
Director of Recreation, Parks, and Community Health, Kevin Adams, will seek board approval for a renewal of a lawn maintenance contract for Areas 12 through 18, serviced by Dutch Valley Landscape Contractors. The projected total cost for 16 mowings is $48,832.
Public Works Director Roderick Ysaguirre is expected to recommend the Patching Program contract be awarded to Advantage Paving Solutions, which submitted a bid of $103,545, lower than the engineer's estimate. This contract, contingent upon additional work, is capped at $175,000, with funding from several municipal funds.
Ysaguirre will also propose renewing the existing Asphalt Patching Program with J & J Newell Concrete Company, incorporating a 3.0% increase for the Curb and Sidewalk Restoration Program. This contract, once authorized, will not exceed $210,496, with funds sourced similar to the former contract.
The agenda rounds off with Ysaguirre's requests to award contracts for water treatment chemicals and approve a construction engineering services agreement concerning the reconstruction project on Forest/Norwood Boulevard.
