Illinois State Senate District 43 candidate Jen Monson shared information on citizen concerns about a new migrant shelter, stating that Illinois residents must "foot the bill" for a Pritzker Administration crisis. She made the statement in a June 26 Facebook post.

"Illinois citizens are being forced to foot the bill for a crisis created by the Pritzker administration," said jennifer Monson for IL Senate, according to Facebook.

Monson shared a link to a Center Square article that focused on the concerns of Cassi Almeida, a Chicago resident and Brazilian immigrant, who worked to get the shelter at Gage Park Fieldhouse shut down. The shelter closed in April.

"They smoked weed 24/7, they peed on the trees in the park, had sex in the park in front of kids. It was chaotic. I think it’s a huge mistake for Pritzker to open more shelters. Some of those people don’t have any respect for the neighborhoods they are staying in," said Almeida.

According to CBS2 News, two shelters will open in Chicago: one near Midway International Airport and another in Hyde Park. The shelter near Midway is expected to hold up to 950 individuals once construction is complete; families are expected to move in next month. The shelter near Hyde Park can hold up to 750 people in a former hotel that had been a quarantine site for migrants during the recent measles outbreak.

Almeida had more to say in her interview with The Center Square. "I’m not against immigrants. I am from Brazil, but when they act with this disrespect it is totally out of the question. To have the government and the mayor applaud and accept this disruption here in Chicago? You want to see a third world country? This is what you guys are getting now [with these migrant shelters]," Almeida told The Center Square.

Jen Monson is the Republican nominee for Illinois State Senate District 43. She ran an uncontested race in the primary election. According to her campaign website, she is an educator and school board member who wants to "work to maintain citizen rights and their ability to exercise their God-given rights to exist and live freely without unconstitutional government overreach."
