Village of Peotone Village Board met May 8

Village of Peotone Village Board met May 8.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

I. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mayor March at 6:00 pm.

II. Roll call

Village Clerk, Stacey Hartwell, conducted the roll call and following persons were present: Trustee Bowden, Trustee Hudson, Trustee Jones, Trustee Marevka, Trustee Sluis and Trustee Strba. Also present were Village Administrator, Aimee Ingalls and Police Chief DeMik, the Village Attorney and Village Engineer.

III. Public Comments:

Kathyrn Mahn spoke and stated she has been to quite a few meetings and was just there to remind all that she is not giving up on the right for backyard hens and she congratulated anyone new on the village board. Jolane Walenga spoke in support of the change in the ordinance, they have been asking for quite some time, she has provided benefits and wants to encourage considering viewpoints and working together to come up with something fair and that has worked in other areas.

IV. Approval of Consent Agenda:

A. Approve the Minutes of the April 24, 2023, Regular Village Board meeting.

B. Approve Payroll/Accounts Payable

C. Approve Special Event/Street Closure St. Paul Church Eucharistic Procession, Conrad & Crawford Streets, June 11, 2023, 11:20am-12:30pm.

D. Accept Resignation of Full Time Police Officer Nick Kovar

E. Approve New Business Registration, Hardcore Hammers, 1201 Teal Ave.

F. Approve Liquor License/Tobacco Renewals: Del Carmen (Liquor), Suzy's Saloon (Liquor/Tobacco), Speedway (Liquor/Tobacco), Dollar General (Tobacco)

V. Staff Committee Reports:

A. Aqua - Angie said Aqua is set to begin flushing hydrants (part of yearly maintenance), an alert was sent out, nothing harmful but may cause discoloration or cause low pressure, should take approximately three weeks to complete.

B. Engineer - Working on design for MFT resurfacing project, should be going to IDOT next week for review and then out to bid, hoping for early July to begin construction.

VI. Mayors Comments - The School District is not prepared to grant the easement at this time to connect the sidewalk from Oak Street to the Elementary school, working with Public Works and will be doing other sidewalk repairs. Community Garage Sales will be June 16th & 17th, sponsored by the Village and more info on Facebook and the website. Will have something on an upcoming agenda regarding chickens. Blood drive on May 23rd at the Fire Station. Congratulations to the newest Eagle Scout, Bobby Wilcox.

B. Motion to Approve Proclamation for Nation Police Week 5/14/23-5/20/23

D. Motion to Approve an Ordinance Amending Various Sections of Chapter 72 (Parking Regulations) of the Village Code of the Village of Peotone

Questions had been brought up about trailers and RV's, there was a Committee Meeting and the committee came up with some guidelines and revised the parking section of the code including: not allowing parking on residential streets from 8pm-6am for vehicles with license plates above Class B; no parking across or blocking the sidewalk, no parking in the parkway or blocking someone's driveway; revised the handicap parking section; added a no left turn ordinance and cannot back into angled parking spots; vehicles must be parked on a hard surface and cannot increase size on existing gravel driveways; limit of two total of either RV's or utility trailers per property; only one parked in front, second would have to be parked on the side or in rear of the house and parked on a hard surface; must be parked 10 feet from adjacent dwelling and 2 feet from sidewalk; must be licensed and in working condition; no restriction on size as long as it fits in the driveway. The Building & Zoning Coordinator will work on educational material.
