At the June 13 meeting of the Bolingbrook Board of Trustees, Mayor Mary Alexander-Basta and Fire Chief Jeff LaJoie swore in five new firefighters.

The five new firefighters sworn in during the meeting were Anthony Palkovitz, Kyle Symons, Jared Beckmann, Kyle Ballard, and Mason Van Duyne. After the swearing in, Alexander-Basta congratulated the firefighters, saying, "Welcome to the Bolingbrook family. That's what we are, right? One big happy family, always big, often happy."

In addition to the swearing-in of the five new firefighters, the trustees also voted to approve the appointments for Lt. Brennan Woods and Lt. Kristofer Schrubble of the police department to be promoted to captain. That swearing-in ceremony is set to take place at a later date.

Other business tended to by the trustees focused on the fire and police departments as well.

The trustees voted to approve the purchases of two new ambulances, a fire truck, and two new fire alarm systems for buildings in the village.

Additionally, the board voted to approve the purchase of body-worn camera systems for police officers. These cameras come as a response to a mandate by the state of Illinois to have these cameras in place by January 2024.

A member of the board commented on the resolution during the meeting saying, "I just want to go out and commend Chief Rompa and his staff for doing all the due diligence on this. It's something that we knew was coming in here. Thank you for doing all that great work."
