State Senator John Curran and State Representative Nicole La Ha are organizing their annual Fishing Derby in Orland Park. The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 7th, from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Tampier Lake West, located at 131st and Will Cook Road.

Senator Curran expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating, "Fishing is a great way to bring people together and appreciate the natural beauty of the outdoors. We look forward to seeing families and young anglers join in on the fun."

The Fishing Derby invites children aged 12 and under to participate without charge. Participants can compete for prizes such as awards for the biggest fish, most fish caught, and the Sportsman Award. The first 200 children will receive complimentary T-shirts.

The day begins with a water safety presentation by the Illinois Conservation Police at 9:00 AM. This aims to educate participants on safe fishing practices before fishing starts at 9:30 AM. An award ceremony will follow at 11:30 AM.

Representative La Ha emphasized the event's family-friendly nature by saying, “This event is a fantastic opportunity for kids and families to experience the joy of fishing. We encourage everyone to come out, have fun, and make great memories as a family.”

Wildlife Forever has donated 50 rods/reels that will be available on a first-come-first-served basis. Alongside the Illinois Conservation Police, representatives from both the Illinois Department of Resources and Chicago Herpetological Society will be present to offer educational insights.

For further details about the Fishing Derby, interested parties can contact Rep. Nicole La Ha’s office at 630-410-8466 or Sen. Curran’s office at 630-914-5733 or visit their website.
