Will County Gazette

There were 1,492 offenders living in Cook County released on parole during the second quarter of 2022, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by Will County Gazette.

The data shows 1,426 men and 66 women were released in Cook County. Of the parolees, 17 were veterans, and the median age was 34. The youngest parolee was a 19-year-old man sentenced for a crime involving one or more weapons in 2022, and the oldest was a 75-year-old man sentenced for a property crime in 2022.

The offender incarcerated the longest was Richard West. He was convicted of homicide in 1977 when he was 20 years old. He is now 66.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
