The future looks bright for the village of Shorewood where the town will soon unveil a new public works facility now being touted as its biggest construction project since the new Village Hall was erected more than a decade ago.
Count state Sen. Meg Loughran Cappel (D-Shorewood) among those breathless with anticipation.
"Over the weekend I had the chance to join Mayor DeBold for the groundbreaking of a brand new public works building in Shorewood,” Loughran Cappel recently posted on Facebook. “Investing in modern infrastructure remains crucial to the success of any community."
With Pacific Construction having already been hired as the contractor, Mayor CC DeBold was joined at the ceremonial outing by several board members and village employees.
With village officials hoping to have the new facility finished by next spring, the plan calls for about two dozen village employees to work out of the 71,000 square feet facility that carries an overall price-tag in the neighborhood of $14 million.
"This is a great opportunity to move public works into one building," DeBold added. "It will definitely be nice to have one centrally located facility for all the streets, water department and parks maintenance. The village bought this (land) about 10 to 15 years ago. It's been village property for some time."
Shorewood now has a population of just over 17,000.
