Joliet Public Schools District 86 is making sure its students remain fed, despite schools being closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to News Break, the district provided 21,162 meals (breakfast and lunch) in its recent distribution of “Grab and Go Meals.” This daily number is expected to go up, district director for communications and development Sandy Zalewski said in a statement.
The meals can be picked up within the two-hour window of 10 a.m. to noon at a number of junior high schools in the district. Students don’t have to attend a Joliet Public Schools District 86 school to receive a free meal.
Valley View School District 365U is also giving out food by the thousands. At one point, 30,000 meals were distributed in a day, director of community relations Jim Blaney said in a statement. Those free meals can be picked up Mondays and Wednesdays from 9-11 a.m.
