Former state school employee McKevitt paid in $64K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $904K in retirement

Former state school employee Mary McKevitt, who retired in June 2018, saved $64,025 toward a pension over 13 years working for public schools, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, McKevitt would collect as much as $904,279, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Will County Gazette.

The projection assumes McKevitt received $19,007 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, McKevitt will have already received $79,517 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
