Former state university employee Mahalik paid in $9K to pension fund, could collect $132K in retirement

Former state university employee Nancy Mahalik, who retired in June 2017, saved $9,349 toward a pension over 7 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Mahalik would collect as much as $131,719, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Will County Gazette.

The projection assumes Mahalik received $2,768 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, Mahalik will have already received $11,581 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
