Former state university employee Peron paid in $23K to pension fund, could collect $253K in retirement

Former state university employee Susan Peron, who retired in August 2018, saved $23,043 toward a pension over 13 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Peron would collect as much as $252,910, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Will County Gazette.

The projection assumes Peron received $5,316 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 5 years of retirement, Peron will have already received $28,220 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
