Former state university employee Lewey paid in $5K to pension fund, could collect $222K in retirement

Former state university employee Sonia Lewey, who retired in September 2017, saved $5,492 toward a pension over 17 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Lewey would collect as much as $222,207, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Will County Gazette.

The projection assumes Lewey received $4,670 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 2 years of retirement, Lewey will have already received $9,480 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
