Reed-Custer Community Unit School District 255 Board met Dec. 20.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The regularly scheduled meeting of the Reed-Custer Community Unit School District 255U Board of Education was held November 20, 2018 at the Administration Center. President Boyer called the meeting to order at 5:35 p.m. with the following members present: Boyer, Van Duyne, Hohenstein, Dransfeldt, Morris, Grace, and Cavanaugh.

Also Present: Mr. Mitchell-Superintendent/Mr. Hulbert-Director of Operations Mrs. Nelson-Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning

CONVENE CLOSED SESSION: A motion was made by Cavanaugh and seconded by Grace to enter into closed session for discussion of employment, resignation, and assignment of personnel or pending/possible legal litigation at 5:36 p.m.

The following members voted yea on a roll call vote: Boyer, Van Duyne, Hohenstein, Dransfeldt, Morris, Grace, and Cavanaugh. 7 yeas, 0 nays. Motion carried.

CONVENE REGULAR SESSION: A motion was made by Grace and seconded by Hohenstein to return to regular session at 6:30 p.m.

The following members voted yea on a roll call vote: Boyer, Van Duyne, Hohenstein, Dransfeldt, Morris, Grace, and Cavanaugh. 7 yeas, 0 nays. Motion carried.

COMMENDATIONS: Mrs., Valiente, Director of Teaching and Learning, commended Katelin Caddell, RCHS FACS teacher, and her students. Students shadowed teachers’, the nurse and other staff at the elementary school.

VISITORS: Braidwood City Commissioner, Jim Hutton, discussed the possibility of installing a new water main down Walker Street, which would require trenching through some of the elementary school property. Hutton said the project, if allowed, would be completed during the summer so it would not interfere with school operations.

REPORTS:

BUILDING and GROUNDS COMMITTEE REPORT:

President Boyer said that they received positive input back from the Voluntary Budget Survey that was sent to employees.

Boyer told the board that the Building and Grounds Committee recommended getting the new high school cafeteria started.

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT:

Superintendent Mitchell gave an overview of the 2018 Tentative Levy and said that the total levy request amount is $26,000,000.

ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT OF TEACHING AND LEARNING:

Mrs. Nelson, gave a summary of the Illinois School Report Card Summative Rating.

ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT OF OPERATIONS:

Mr. Hulbert, Assistant Superintendent of Operations, gave a Technology update and reported that the wireless site survey and infrastructure survey were completed.

Hulbert reported that the Raptor Visitor Management System was in place and functioning.

Hulbert told the board that beginning on November 26, Bus route #8 will be dissolved and absorbed into 4 other routes.

CONSENT AGENDA: A motion was made by Grace and seconded by Van Duyne to approve the following consent agenda items:

ACTION ITEMS:

A motion was made by Grace and seconded by Cavanaugh to approve the following action items:

Personnel

-Accept the resignation of Deb Helsing, Reed-Custer Bus Driver, effective November 16, 2018. -Accept the resignation of Rich Bell, RCHS Assistant Boys Soccer Coach.

-Approve the employment of Jolene Smith, Reed-Custer Substitute Custodian.

Building Usage-

-Approve Braidwood Chamber of Commerce, RCES Cafeteria, Christmas Tree Lighting, December 1, 2018, 2:00 p.m. -8:00 p.m., Michelle Axium.

-Approve BBSA, baseball practice, Reed-Custer Fieldhouse, Jan. 27, 2019, Feb. 3,10,17, & 24, 2019, March 3,10, & 17, 2019, April 7, 2019, Jerry Curl.

-Approve RCES, RCMS, and RCHS School Wide Plans.

-Approve Intergovernmental Agreement to Provide Resource Officer for Reed-Custer Community Unit School District 255U for 2018-2019 school year. 

-Approve Health Life Safety Survey by STR Architectural. -RCHS Winter Season Overnight Stays

Wrestling- December 27 & 28, 2018, Lincoln Rumble, Springfield, IL 

Wrestling- January 4, 2019, Princeton Tournament, Princeton, IL

The following members voted yea on a roll call vote: Boyer, Van Duyne, Hohenstein, Dransfeldt, Morris, Grace, and Cavanaugh. 7 yeas, 0 nays. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Cavanaugh and seconded by Grace to approve the following action item: -Approve Resolution Estimating the Amount of Taxes to be Levied for Tax Year 2018.

The following members voted yea on a roll call vote: Boyer, Van Duyne, Hohenstein, Dransfeldt, Morris, Grace, and Cavanaugh. 7 yeas, 0 nays. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Van Duyne and seconded by Hohenstein to approve the following action item: 

-Consideration and approval of Residential Real Estate Sales Contract for the School District’s purchase of the property at 278 S. School Street, Braidwood, Will County, Illinois for the price of $155,000, as presented.

The following members voted yea on a roll call vote: Boyer, Van Duyne, Hohenstein, Dransfeldt, Morris, Grace, and Cavanaugh. 7 yeas, 0 nays. Motion carried.

DISCUSSION ITEM:

The following item was discussed:

A. Out of State National Science Teachers Association Conference, St. Louis, Missouri, April 11, 2019 – April 14, 2019, Jayme Miller.

ADJOURNMENT:

A motion was made by Grace and seconded by Cavanaugh to adjourn the meeting at 7:29 p.m.
