Rick Laib says it is imperative that voters are honest with themselves, as they prepare to cast their ballots Tuesday.

“Voters should assess if they're satisfied with the representation they've received,” Laib told Will County Gazette. “Vote for the candidate that most highly esteems not only the sanctity of human life, but the ability to promote the quality of human life.”

A former member of the U.S. Army Reserves running against state Rep. Lawrence Walsh Jr. (D-Joilet) in the 86th District, Laib has made greater fiscal responsibility in government and tax reform staples of his platform.

On his campaign website, Laib stresses his call for “limited government,” which he argues could help put the state back on track, as opposed to Democrats' call for more taxes.

”My opponent has indicated that he is concerned about Illinoisans and their ability to pursue a quality lifestyle in this state,” he said. “However, he and I disagree on the best way to achieve that goal. He has advanced legislation that will compromise life and legislation that will make it more difficult to keep the money you've earned.”

Laib is imploring voters to turn out at the polls to make sure their voices are heard, in what many consider to be a critical election for the state and its future.

Laib said it is important for people to “vote because of the influence you have to help shape the world the way you think it ought to be.”

The 86th District covers part of the Chicago metro area and the cities of Crest Hill, Joliet and Lockport.
