Crete Monee Community Unit School District 201U students suspended 1,815 times in a single school year

Crete Monee Community Unit School District 201U reported 1,815 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

The district transferred six students to another program instead of suspending or expelling them.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 1,815 students during the year. That equates to 37 percent of the 4,910 students enrolled.

Of the 1,108 in-school suspensions, 774 were given to boys and 334 were given to girls, including 781 elementary or middle schoolers and 327 high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 1,092 incidents. There were six incidents of tobacco. For 924 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 707 out-of-school suspensions, 504 were given to boys and 203 were given to girls, including 456 elementary or middle schoolers and 251 high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 672 incidents. There were 17 incidents of drugs. For 325 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
