Village of Homer Glen Public Services & Safety Committee met Aug. 6.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

1. Call to Order.

The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m. by Chairman Curt Mason. 

2. Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

3. Roll Call.

Members present at 4:00 p.m. were Chairman Curt Mason, Homer Township Fire Protection District Deputy Chief Dave Bricker, Will County Sheriff’s Department Lieutenant Pete Piazza, Village Engineer Brett Westcott, Building Official Scott Chance, EMA Coordinator Ron Kus and Public Works Director Brent Woods.

Also in attendance was Trustee Nick Muller and Northwest Homer Fire Protection District Deputy Chief Brian Windberg.

4. Approval of Amendments to the Agenda. There were no amendments to the agenda

5. Minutes.

a) A motion was made by Brent Woods to approve the minutes from the May 7, 2025 meeting. This motion was seconded by Dave Bricker and unanimously approved by all.

6. Public Comments –

a) Scott Perry spoke to the committee regarding sight line concerns on Hadley Road around South Bell Road. Mr. Perry also requested a speed limit reduction for the traffic on Hadley Road.

b) Bill Burnette spoke to the committee regarding sight line concerns on Hadley Road around South Bell Road.

c) Ragan Pattison spoke to the committee regarding sight line concerns on Hadley Road around South Bell Road

d) Jim Henrichs spoke to the committee regarding sight line concerns on Hadley Road around South Bell Road and stated that he was involved in a traffic crash at this location.

7. Reports and Communications

a) Chairpersons Report – Chairman Mason advised that he received information on License Plate Reader Cameras and is looking into them. Chairman Mason also advised that he is looking into Kratom and how to regulate it within the Village.

b) Fire District Reports- Dave Bricker wanted to remind everyone that school will be starting back up and to watch for school buses.

c) Will County Sheriff Report- No Report

d) Emergency Management Agency Report. – Ron Kus advised that EMA has assisted the Villages of Mokena and New Lenox with mutual aid events. EMA also assisted the Village of Elwood with a missing person.

e) Development Services Director Report- Construction on Bell is ongoing, The work at 143rd Street and Bell Road is scheduled to start on August 19th. Please check the Village’s Web Site for official updates.

f) Building Official Report- Scott Chance advised that the golden oak project is almost completed and the Marian Village addition is almost completed. Marian Village will have their grand opening on August 20th.

g) Public Works Director- Brent Woods advised that Public Works has been busy and he will be purchasing another mower next week to help keep up with the increase in complaints.

9. New Business.

a) Brent Woods advised that he has received many requests for additional signs to be posted along the roadway. The signs requested included children at play, special needs child in the area and stop sign requests.

There was a sight distance study that was done in 2017 regarding South Bell Road and Hadley Road. This will be covered under old business at the September 3,2025 Public Services and Safety Meeting.

10. Adjournment.

Motion by Brett Westcott, seconded by Ron Kus. Motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 5:20pm.
