State Representative Patrick Sheehan, a Republican elected in 2024 to represent Illinois's 37th House District, posted a series of tweets on September 1 and 2, 2025, addressing issues related to labor and public safety in Chicago.
On September 1, Sheehan expressed support for workers in his district, writing: "Labor built this country—brick by brick, shift by shift, generation after generation. Every teacher, tradesperson, nurse, and public servant deserves respect, protection, and a voice at the table. I stand with the workers of 37th District. Their grit, skill, and commitment" (posted September 1, 2025).
The following day, Sheehan criticized Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson over their response to violent crime in Chicago. He posted: "Chicago saw another weekend of violent crime. Governor Pritzker and Mayor Johnson say they don’t want the President calling in the National Guard to help protect families. Last year, the Governor had no problem deploying the Guard to protect his friends at the DNC in Chicago." (posted September 2, 2025).
Later on September 2nd, Sheehan issued an official statement regarding state leadership’s stance on federal assistance for violence prevention: "FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Rep. Sheehan Rebukes Gov. Pritzker and Mayor Johnson Over Chicago Violence Response Homer Glen, IL…Following Governor J.B. Pritzker’s press conference today rejecting federal assistance to address rising violence in Chicago, State Representative Patrick" (posted September 2, 2025).
Sheehan began representing Illinois's 37th House District after being elected in November 2024; he succeeded Tim Ozinga as part of a new class of legislators from that election cycle.
