La’ Paca Austin, after years of working in warehouses for companies such as UPS, Amazon, and Frito-Lay, is preparing to open her own massage therapy business in Park Forest. Austin’s decision to become a massage therapist was inspired by a coworker who praised her natural ability to help relieve pain. She began researching the field and later enrolled at the Soma Institute in Chicago.
Balancing school with part-time work and raising two sons was challenging for Austin. Despite these obstacles, she completed her training and has spent several years gaining experience in the wellness industry.
Austin’s new venture, Imishe Massage, is named after her middle name. The business will hold its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, September 6 at 1 p.m. at 218 Forest Blvd., Downtown Park Forest.
Austin said her services go beyond traditional massage. She offers targeted stretching sessions and has established a “forever discount” for seniors so their rates remain unchanged. “I love my older clients,” Austin said. “They need care, too. They need love, touch, and relief.”
A recent car accident delayed the opening of Imishe Massage when Austin suffered a fractured hand. Despite this setback, she remains focused on serving the community: “I’ve always spoken things into existence, saying, ‘I’m going to have my own spot. Just wait, it’s coming,’” Austin said. “Now, I’m more polished, more established, and ready to serve the community.”
Her eldest son has been an important motivation throughout this process: “The least I could do is get this business started so I can send my son off to graduation knowing I followed my own dreams too,” she said.
As Imishe Massage prepares to welcome clients, Austin hopes that sharing her journey will encourage others facing uncertainty or fear about pursuing their goals: “My journey was long, but I pushed forward,” she said. “I just hope people will come out, give me a chance, and let me serve them. This business isn’t just for me — it’s for the community.”
