Several Chicago-area communities, including the City of Crest Hill, will participate in a pavement condition assessment project this summer. The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) has hired AECOM and Applied Pavement Technology, Inc. (APTech) to conduct these assessments and help implement pavement management systems from August 25th through September 5th, 2025.

Communities involved in the project are the City of Crest Hill, City of Chicago Heights, Village of Oak Park, Village of Itasca, Village of Oakwood Hills, Village of Holiday Hills, Village of Hebron, and Village of Greenwood.

According to CMAP, APTech vehicles equipped with specialized technology will travel local streets during this period to collect information on street conditions. This data will be used by cities and villages to identify which roads need repairs most urgently and to develop multi-year paving and preservation plans. These efforts are intended to support data-driven decisions regarding roadway maintenance.

“Roads are one of the most valuable assets a municipality owns and maintains, and APTech is proud to help these Chicago-area communities proactively protect them,” said Luis Sibaja, Program Director with APTech. “Our team has more than twenty-five years of experience and has collected condition data on thousands of roadway miles. We look forward to using that expertise to help these communities update their pavement management and preservation programs and refine their decision-making processes. Our goal is to help clients provide the best driving conditions possible with the resources available.”

The APTech van will follow posted traffic signs, display a warning beacon for safety, drive at regular speeds, and is not expected to disrupt traffic or pedestrian activity while conducting its survey work.

The schedule for data collection may change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Residents seeking more details about the assessment can contact Luis Sibaja at APTech or Jose Rodriguez at CMAP for additional information.
