The Village of Park Forest, in partnership with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP), is encouraging residents to participate in a new questionnaire designed to inform the 2026 Regional Transportation Plan. The survey aims to gather input on travel habits and desired changes to the transportation system across northeastern Illinois.
According to CMAP, the Regional Transportation Plan will guide policy and investment decisions for the next two to three decades. The plan is being developed through collaboration with local governments, transit agencies, and community organizations. Adoption of the plan is scheduled for fall 2026.
Officials say that responses from residents will help identify preferred modes of transportation, existing challenges, and suggestions for improvements. CMAP emphasized that community feedback will play a role in shaping decisions related to roads, public transit options, bicycle infrastructure, and pedestrian access.
As part of earlier planning stages, nearly 30 transportation plans from municipal, regional, and state agencies were reviewed. This process helped CMAP set priorities that align regional objectives with local needs.
The survey will be available throughout 2025. Officials note that keeping it open for an extended period allows more people—including commuters and workers—to share their perspectives. In addition to the online questionnaire, CMAP representatives are available to attend meetings or events in order to explain details about the plan and answer questions.
