John Charles Maier | Richard J. Modell Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Homer Glen

John Charles Maier, aged 76, passed away. He was the loving son of the late Charles and Agnes Maier and brother of the late Vivian (late Leo) Lillard, Joan (late Jack) Flynn, Patricia (late Sal) Spalla, and Richard (Diane) Maier. John was a fond uncle and great-uncle to many and a dear friend of the late Neil Borgstrom. He had a special love for dogs, particularly Bullwinkle, Max, and Brodie. John, formerly known as Brother Dominic Joseph, was a former Franciscan Brother of the Holy Cross in Springfield, Illinois.

John dedicated himself to serving others, working at St. James Trade School and St. John's Hospital in Springfield. He spent many years assisting developmentally disabled children and adults at Kennedy School, now known as St. Coletta's of Illinois, and at Misericordia, Heart of Mercy in Chicago. For over 40 years, John served in the Religious Education Program and as Liturgy Coordinator at Our Lady of the Woods Parish in Orland Park.

He had a special bond with the Dominican Sisters of Adrian, Michigan, especially Sister Dorothy Glaister OP, and the Franciscan Sisters of St. Francis, Wisconsin, especially Sister Eleanor Smith OSF.

A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, from 4:00 pm until the time of the Memorial Mass at 6:00 pm at Our Lady of The Woods Church in Orland Park. The interment will be private, and there are no services at the funeral home.
