A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the City of Joliet Department of Finance on October 31, 2024. The request, made by us at the Will County Gazette, sought comprehensive details about sales tax records for the city.
The information requested specifically included a list of businesses that paid sales tax to the city from January 1, 2023, to October 31, 2024. This list is expected to contain the business name, type of business, and the amount of sales tax each entity paid within this period.
In addition to this detailed breakdown, we also requested for the total amount of sales tax that the city collected within this same timeframe.
As a media organization committed to providing accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe access to these public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities.
