City of Braidwood City Council met Aug. 27.
Here are the minutes provided by the council:
Call to Order: The Regular Meeting of the Braidwood City Council on August 27, 2024 was called to order at 7:00 p.m., by Mayor Hart in the Council Chambers of the Braidwood City Hall.
Pledge of Allegiance: Mayor Hart requested all rise for the Pledge of Allegiance.
Roll Call: Upon Roll Call by the Clerk, the following members of the corporate authorities answered "Here" or "Present";
Elected Officials;
Present: Commissioner Earling, Commissioner Wietting, Commissioner Walsh, Commissioner Wilczak and Mayor Hart
Absent: None
Appointed Officials:
Present: City Clerk Weaver, City Administrator Altiery, Chief Goodwin, and City Attorney Wellner
Absent: City Engineer Sean Kelly
Quorum: There being sufficient members of the corporate authorities in attendance to constitute a quorum, the meeting was declared in order.
Public Comment: Audrey Miller; Surf Internet Regional Market Manager: I am part of the community relations and will be trying to take part in the community on where ever I can. I will leave my contact information for any questions or concerns. We have started construction on underground fiber internet and are hoping to have our first customers hooked up in about three (3) weeks.
Approval of Minutes: Commissioner Wilczak made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Walsh, to approve meeting minutes from the August 13, 2024 Regular Council Meeting. Motion carried with 5 ayes: 0 nays; 0 Abstain (Earling, Wietting, Walsh, Wilczak and Hart)
Mayor's Report: Hart: Requesting a motion to approve Ordinance 24-37. Commissioner Wilczak made a motion with corrected recommendations seconded by Commissioner Walsh to approve Ordinance 24-37 Authorizing the Execution of a Real Estate Purchase Contract and the purchase of property described as Vacant Land on Mary Lane, Braidwood, Will County, Illinois 60408 (PIN. 02-24-06-401-001-0000). Council discussed: City Clerk Weaver read notes of how and why this property was missed in an annexation within the Prairie View Subdivision. Attorney Wellner clarified that this is an out lot for green space not a lot for residential for development. After the development of this subdivision this lot is not being taken care or taxes being paid and nothing is recorded with the county. We are purchasing this from Will County at cost. Motion carried with 5 ayes: 0 nays; 0 Abstain (Earling, Wietting, Walsh, Wilczak and Hart)
Administrator Report: Altiery: They have started demolition of the old restaurant on Rt 113 and Division St. We worked with the Fire Department so they could do some training and practice. Also, like Audrey said, Surf is coming in. They are north of Third Street right now and east of Center Street. As they move across town there will be flags and paint to mark where everything is at. It should take about 3- 4 months to finish the town.
City Clerk Report: Requesting a motion to approve the Annual Braidwood Lions Candy Day Fundraiser. Commissioner Wilczak made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Wietting to approve the Annual Braidwood Lions Candy Day Fundraiser on Friday, October 11, 2024. With a possible rain date of Friday October 18, 2024 from 3 - 6 pm at the downtown intersections of Route 113 & Route 53/129. Motion carried with 5 ayes: 0 nays; 0 Abstain (Earling, Wietting, Walsh, Wilczak and Hart)
Also announce that the Reed-Custer Middle School is working with the Braidwood Food Panty to help families in need this Holiday Season.
Engineer Report: None
City Attorney Report: No Report.
Accounts & Finance Report: Earling: Want to thank the council members for the opportunity to have a seat at the council. Vows to listen to the community and the concerns and will do the best to get the answers or solutions needed.
Commissioner Earling made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Wietting, to approve the Payment of Bills, in the amount of $115,616.25 as identified in the Accounts Payable General Ledger dated August 13, 2024. Motion carried with 5 ayes: 0 nays. (Earling, Wietting, Walsh, Wilczak and Hart)
Commissioner Earling then made a Motion, seconded by Commissioner Wilczak, to Approve Payroll Expenses, in the amount of $93,943.07 as identified in the Payroll General Ledger dated August 16, 2024. Motion carried with 5 ayes; 0 nays. (Earling, Wietting, Walsh, Wilczak and Hart).
Streets & Public Improvement Report: Walsh: There has been discussion about our crews being on I- 55 clearing brush and cutting grass. Many municipalities have agreements with IDOT to take care of the grass along the neighboring highway in their town. We are doing this resolution to make our agreement with IDOT current. There is a gate just south of Camping World leading out to the grass, they are never parked along I-55. They have been out there working and it is looking nice.
Commissioner Walsh made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Wilczak to approve Resolution 24-2 Authorizing the City of Braidwood to Submit Permits to IDOT Regarding Landscaping and Related Guarantees. Motion carried with 5 ayes: 0 nays; 0 Abstain (Earling, Wietting, Walsh, Wilczak and Hart)
Public Property Report: No Report.
Public Health & Safety Report: Chief Goodwin announced the graduation of Owen Sterba and Kaedyn Urban from the Academy and will now be on the job training as Police Officers.
Wilczak: Announced local cooling centers. City Hall is one of them and if after hours please call 1-815- 458-2341.
Braidwood Police Department Press Release for August 13, 2024 to August 26, 2024: Total number of calls for service 229, case reports 27, total subjects arrested 4, total arrest charges 6, total number of traffic stops 51, citations 18, written warnings 19, semi-truck violations 3, and total number of P-tickets 1.
Planning & Zoning Report: No Report.

New Business: Hart: With the warm weather we've been having remember to check on elders. We are also looking for volunteers for our Beautification Committee.
