Village of Peotone Village Board met June 24.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

I. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mayor March at 6:00 pm.

II. Roll call

Village Clerk, Stacey Hartwell, conducted the roll call and following persons were present: Trustee Richards, Trustee Sandberg and Trustee Strba. Also, present were the Mayor, the Village Attorney and the Village Engineer.

III. Administer Oath of Office to New Full Time Police Officer Joseph Santacaterina The Mayor asked the Board’s permission to move this item up on the agenda.

IV. Public Comments: None

V. Approval of Consent Agenda:

A. Approve the Minutes of the June 10, 2024, Regular Village Board meeting

B. Approve Executive Session Minutes from the June 10, 2024, Regular Village Board meeting

C. Approve Payroll/Accounts Payable

Moved by Trustee Strba, Seconded by Trustee Richards

Roll Call Vote: Trustee Richards, Trustee Sandberg, Trustee Strba, Mayor March

Nays: None

Absent: Trustee Hudson, Trustee Marevka, Trustee Sluis

Motion passed

VI. Staff Committee Reports:

The Building Department, Administrator, Treasurer, Public Works and Police Chief’s reports were all in Board Packets

A. Public Works – Bob reported that there was a report in the Board Packets but in addition curbs are being poured in the downtown today.

B. Chief - Chief DeMik reported that there was a report in the Board Packets but in addition the Village was awarded a traffic safety grant for speed enforcement that will be beginning July 8th through early August, it is for 250 hours of enforcement and that more officers will be writing tickets.

C. Engineer – Troy reported that they will be working on curbs in the downtown for a couple of weeks, then back filling the curbs and then begin paving the binder course.

VII. Mayor’s Comments: The Mayor stated he hoped everyone had looked over the Treasurer report in their Board Packet and noticed that the budget ended up with a $260,000 surplus in the General Fund. He thanked staff for keeping expenses under control.

VIII. Old Business: None

IX. New Business:

A. Motion to Award Contract to Lowest Bidder, Iroquois Paving Corporation, in the Amount of $85,192.05, for the 2024 MFT/RBI Crawford Street Resurfacing Project

This will be for a one block section between Conrad and West Street.

Moved by Trustee Strba, Seconded by Trustee Sandberg

Roll Call Vote: Trustee Richards, Trustee Sandberg, Trustee Strba, Mayor March

Nays: None

Absent: Trustee Hudson, Trustee Marevka, Trustee Sluis

Motion passed

X. Questions of the Press: None

XI. Correspondence/Communications/Petitions: Trustee Richards asked Trustee Strba if there could be a Public Works Committee meeting soon, Trustee Strba responded that he will plan one in July. The Mayor reminded everyone that the next Regular Village Board Meeting will be July 22nd, there will only be one meeting in July, but a Special Meeting could be held if need be.
