Illinois State Senate District 43 candidate Jen Monson expressed concerns about a new law in Illinois that she believes could encourage criminal behavior among illegal migrants. "This law only serves to further embolden the criminal behavior of illegal migrants," Monson said in a June 11 Facebook post.

"My first question to legislators," said jennifer Monson for IL Senate, according to Facebook. "Was this bill passed to allow noncitizens to vote? This law only serves to further embolden the criminal behavior of illegal migrants."

In her post, Monson shared content from Southside Republicans, which highlighted an article from MyStateline.com. The article detailed several laws set to take effect on July 1, including House Bill 2883. This bill would allow noncitizen residents of Illinois to obtain a standard driver’s license with the notice "Federal Limits Apply" printed at the top. Applicants must have lived in the state for more than a year and cannot have a social security number; they must provide immigration documentation, a consular card, or a passport.

Monson questioned whether this law was intended to enable noncitizens to vote and posed several other questions before stating: "People who have come into our country illegally should not be rewarded for the criminal acts they’ve committed. And I’m not talking about legitimate asylum seekers. Did you know that asylum seekers are supposed to seek asylum at the border of an adjacent country? You don’t walk/drive/fly across multiple countries/borders to seek asylum," Monson said in her Facebook post.

According to MyStateline.com, the process for applying for this standard license with federal limits will be similar to that for obtaining a Temporary Visitor Driver’s License (TVDL), which this new license will replace. Individuals holding a TVDL may continue using it.

Jen Monson is the Republican nominee for Illinois State Senate District 43, having run unopposed in the primary election. Her campaign website states that she is an educator and school board member who aims to "work to maintain citizen rights and their ability to exercise their God-given rights to exist and live freely without unconstitutional government overreach."
