CD-1. Facade & Site Improvement Grant Request for 118 E. 10th Street in the Amount up to $20,000 for the Replacement of Marble Slates with Stone Across Front Facade
Director of Community & Economic Development, Lance Thies, presented an update on details related to the materials for this project. The Commission is considering alternative material, that are more cost effective but serve the aesthetic required for the building. As a non-profit, the Moose has limited funds for building maintenance, up to a maximum of $10,000. The City is expecting bids by this Friday. Seeking approval for up to $50,000 for the project. A decision is needed as soon as possible to protect the building from further damage; without the marble panels, the building is open and exposed.
Discussion among the Council ensued regarding the cost and options for materials. The City has an estimate for black brick, which was $6,000, significantly less than the cost of the new 1x2 material. If the Council recommends a different alternative, the Moose will need to appeal the Heritage and
Architecture’s decision. Recommendation to continue this item until the November City Council meeting, wherein the City can review and discuss the materials and costs.
