Joliet Mayor Bob O'Dekirk gave an update on a new restaurant during a Joliet City Council meeting on Jan. 14.
O’Dekirk, also Joliet’s liquor commissioner, recommended that the council approve a liquor license for a new Olive Garden that is slated to open in the city later this year.
“They’ve talked about being open in the spring,” O'Dekirk said during the meeting, according to a story by Shaw Local News.
The restaurant, located on Route 30 in The Boulevard, is now under construction as part of a 171-acre development that is visible to passers-by who are driving Route 30 between Joliet and Plainfield, the story added.
The chain has frequently been mentioned among the restaurants local residents would like to see come to Joliet, O'Derik added.
Right now, the only business operating in The Boulevard is the Costco store, which opened in late 2020 on the Plainfield section of the development, the story stated. One other building is currently under construction, which O’Dekirk said is expected to contain a restaurant that has yet to be announced.
