The Village Board of Frankfort promoted an upcoming event during a meeting in December.
Mayor Keith Ogle revealed that the village is bringing back its Fire and Ice Winter Social. The event will be held on Feb. 4 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. It is highlighted by a chili cook-off competition that residents can enter. Ogle called the cook-off "a great event" and said it was "great to bring it back" after the pandemic.
"Now, this chili cook-off was an amateur event for 25 years," he said. "The last one we held was in February of 2020, right before COVID. So, we were bringing this back and we had [sic] used to have about 20 to 25 competitors from all over the region."
Both amateur and professional cooks are encouraged to enter, Ogle said.
"You don't have to live in Frankfort to do this, if you think you've got a chili recipe that can stand up to this," he said.
Entry to the cook-off is free and free tastings will be offered to spectators.
The Fire and Ice Winter Social will include live ice-sculpting demonstrations, family-friendly ice games, and a bonfire with hot chocolate and s'mores, the mayor said.
Registration is open for a limited number of spots and ends on Jan. 27. The first-, second-, and third-place winners will be chosen by popular vote.
More information is available on the village's website.
