Republican state senate candidate Krystyna Vela of the 40th District is opposed to additional state COVID-19 protocols for schools.

Vela is based in Frankfort and has 15 years of experience as a real estate broker. She has worked on large scale development projects bringing jobs to southland.

"The time is now to end statewide mandates in schools and give parents the freedom to choose what is best for their own children," Vela said. "I am running for state senate because enough is enough with these mandates that are no longer necessary. As a mother and small business owner in Illinois, I will fight for all of us to be able to make our own decisions regarding mask mandates."

Vela has promoted her candidacy by pointing to her experience as an activist taking part in the grassroots effort to oust Democratic candidate Thomas Kilbride from the state’s Supreme Court. This was the first time that an incumbent Illinois Supreme Court judge had lost a retention vote. Vela's district is currently represented by Sen. Patrick Joyce (D-Essex).

This district contains segments of Cook, Grundy, Kankakee and Will counties.
